The CATIC Board of Directors has voted to endorse the American Land Title Association's recently adopted ALTA Principles of Fair Conduct. These Principles represent ALTA's "commitment to promote behavior within the title industry that serves the needs and interests of consumers." In the Preamble to the Principles, ALTA expresses the expectation that its members will adhere to the highest standards of ethical behavior, and encourages its members to pledge to support the Principles and incorporate them into their daily business practices. The ALTA Principles are available on ALTA's website, www.alta.org, under the "Consumer Initiatives" banner.
In its endorsement, CATIC's Board of Directors noted that the Principles represent standards of conduct that CATIC has always adhered to and promoted. Among these standards are the pledge to engage only in lawful business practices, to encourage a culture of compliance with all relevant state and federal laws, to treat consumers fairly and ethically, and to encourage and assist consumers to be educated purchasers of title insurance and title-related services. In announcing the Board's endorsement, CATIC's President, Richard J. Patterson, stated "It is gratifying to note the extent to which these Principles reflect the corporate philosophy that CATIC has always espoused. As always, we will continue to encourage our agents to adhere to the strictest ethical standards and practices."
